Center Overview

Bio resources development centre owode was established in the year 2012, the Centre is located in the southwestern region of Nigeria specifically in a town called owode -yewa in Ogun state, Nigeria.

The Centre was established as part of a group of scientific institutions located within the same community and referred to as “SCIENCE HUB”.

The HUB consist of about four parastatal under the federal ministry of science and technology, members of the hub include; FIRO, NIBRI,TIC and NABDA.

The idea of having a science hub is to promote collaboration and synergy amongst participating members to enable speedy delivery of products of science and technology R&D to the rural communities.

Since its establishment, the centre has made giant strides in various areas, such as;

*Bioprospecting

*Capacity development

*Research and innovation

*Provision of extension services to rural farmers

*Collaborations

Center Objectives

To ensure significant grassroots empowerment of people of the region through profitable exploitation and development of their indigenous bioresources.

To sustain local capacity for efficient and effective research and development, field trials and promotion of biotechnology processes to achieve value addition on development of indigenous bioresources into products in order to diversify the Nation’s economy.

To become a centre of international repute for holistic bioresources development and a regional hub for sustainable generation, growth and development of viable technology driven, private sector led and knowledge-based bio-enterprise.

Center Research Capacity

Catfish Hatchery Unit, Poultry Production Unit, Giant Snail Multiplication Unit, Artificial Earthen Pond, Bio-ethanol Production Facility, Small Ruminant Confinement Facility, Giant Pawpaw Mother Plot for seed Multiplication, Basic laboratory equipment.

Reporting and Communication, Bioresources Identification and Domestication, Indigenous Bioresources conservation,

Training and capacity development.
