NBRDA, BASANI SIGN MOA to Advance Genomics, Digital Health and Biotechnology Innovation in Nigeria

The National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) and Basani Digital Innovations Limited have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to advance genomics research, digital health innovation and biotechnology development in Nigeria.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday at the NBRDA Headquarters Abuja, builds on a previously executed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both organisations to support the development of a centralised genomic data ecosystem and expand Nigeria’s capacity in data-driven healthcare solutions.

Director General, NBRDA, Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, described the agreement as a milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s biotechnology and digital health ecosystem through effective public-private collaboration.

He explained that the partnership supports the National Genomics and Bioinformatics Data Generation Repository (NGBR), one of NBRDA’s flagship initiatives designed to position Nigeria within the global bioeconomy while promoting genomic data management and collaboration among stakeholders.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of Basani Digital Innovations Limited, Mr. Basil Ani, said the collaboration will advance genomic research and infrastructure in Nigeria, promote innovation-driven healthcare solutions, support artificial intelligence integration and biotechnology advancement, encourage capacity building and knowledge transfer, and position Nigeria as a leading hub for genomic research and biotechnology innovation in Africa.

He urged Nigerian scientists, researchers and innovators to embrace biotechnology and digital innovation as tools for national transformation and economic growth.
