Aquatic Bio-Resources Development Centre Ikeduru Imo State with center administrative code 002280030042 was established in the year 2020. For grass root delivery of National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency’s mandate in the area of; Environmental (Gray), Industrial (White), food (Yellow), Marine (Blue) and Medical (Red).
The Biotechnology, Research and development purposes by the Federal Government of Nigeria under NABDA’S BILL promulgated into an Act/Law on April 6th 2022 via a provision on Bio-resources research policy. The vision, Mission and mandates are as follow.
The centre in conjunction with Odinma Ikeduru (A non political cultural organization in Ikeduru) established a macro propagation farm in Atta Ikeduru between 23rd-25th August 2023.
The Aquatic Bioresources Development Centre (ABIDC) took off at a temporary site Davis comprehensive Secondary school Atta Ikeduru, with growth in the number of staff, the space became small to accommodate all staff. The ABIDC requested for space at Ikeduru Local Government Headquarter secretariat. Office space was granted to ABIDC
in June 2024 by the then Sole Administrator Hon Nze Justices and presently the executive chairman of Ikeduru Local Government Area Imo State.
To grow centre of repute and attraction for wide range bio-resources, research and development via, Biotechnological based enterprises, driven by the Government and or public, private, partnership (PPP) to add to Nations GDP
To play catalytic role by providing a competent platform for sustainable research and development of Bio resources through development of scientific and Bio technological techniques to savage and promote food security and nutrition, clean and friendly environment, affordable medicine delivery, and industrial activities for diversification and socio-economic development of its host community, local government area and the state at large
We employ a multidisciplinary approach that integrates molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and computational sciences. Our laboratories are equipped with modern facilities for experimental research, pilot production, and field testing.
To research, develop, promote, conserve and acclimatize various indigenous and Research application to enhance Human and Economic growth and development in Imo State.
In specific terms, Aquatic BIODEC Ikeduru is saddled with the mandate to:
1. Conserve and convey numerous bioresources for Scientific, Industrial, Agricultural, Environmental, Medical and Research application.
2. Develop and Breed Aquatic lives as well as Microbial Organisms for beneficial uses.
3. Conserve and convey numerous bioresources for Scientific, Industrial, Agricultural, Environmental, Medical and Research application.
4.Develop and Breed Aquatic lives as well as Microbial Organisms for beneficial uses.
5. Establish Biorepositories for developed Bioresources for protection of intellectual property rights and future use.
6. Support R&D activities for preservation of the nation’s ecological biodiversity,
7. Train and Continuous Training of Experts in the field of Bioresources Development.
8. Promote and collaboration in Bioresources Development with the Private and Public sectors, Researchers, Industries and the Academia.
9. Develop Bioresources Entrepreneurship Programmes in Support of National Natural Medicine, Agriculture and Industrial Activities in Nigeria.
