NBRDA, La Shipson Advance Plans for Local Production of HIV Drugs in Nigeria
The National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) and La Shipson Pharmaceuticals Ltd are advancing plans for the local production of HIV drugs in Nigeria.
Following the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations, a delegation from La Shipson Pharmaceutical Ltd, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Godiya Shipi, visited NBRDA during the week for further engagements to ensure a smooth and successful commencement of production. The delegation also included the company’s Board Chairman, Dr. Handsome Momoh, as well as partners and investors, all of whom reaffirmed their strong interest and support for the initiative.

The project, which will be domiciled within NBRDA, is expected to bridge the healthcare gap created by the withdrawal of international aid for HIV treatments. It will also improve access to life-saving medicines, create jobs, drive technology transfer, upgrade NBRDA’s laboratory infrastructure, and strengthen staff capacity through expanded research and analysis.
With implementation steps already underway, both parties are working towards making these products available in the Nigerian market by the first quarter of 2026.
